The longer an animal spends in the kennels, the less adoptable
it becomes. Animals can go “kennel crazy”, show
aggressive tendencies or just plain bounce off the walls when
they’re taken to visit with a prospective adopter. Regular
exercise and socialization can greatly improve the quality
of an animal’s life while he/she is here – and
make a big difference when it comes to adoptability. That’s
where the Kennel Tech/TCL Giver comes in.
This position requires:
- Experience with animals
- Patience (you’ll get jumped on, drooled on and
just overall dirty)
- Exercising and socializing the animals, including petting,
hugs and attention
- Some kennel clean-up
- Ensuring that all animals have sufficient water
You’ll also be asked to observe and record animal behavior.
For example, if you notice that a particular dog has had some
prior obedience training, make a note and pass it along to
our adoption counselors. If you notice some aggression towards
other dogs, our staff needs to know this as well. This is
information is important when it comes to placing an animal
in the right home.
