Help Everyone Reduce Overpopulation (HERO) of unwanted pets
by making a contribution to the HERO fund.
Why?
Nearly 5,000
unwanted or stray animals are brought yearly to Harbor Humane
Society, Ottawa County’s only animal shelter. More
than 2,500 of these animals are euthanized (put to sleep)
simply because there are not enough homes for them. We can
help by spaying or neutering our pets. Sadly, not everyone
can afford to do this.
How You Can Help
The HERO Fund is
set up to increase the spay/neuter of pets in Ottawa County.
Currently, we have a $10,000 dollar for dollar matching bequest
for donations made by the public to pay for vouchers for
low income families to have their pets spayed or neutered.
You can qualify for this match by making a donation to Harbor
Humane Society directly at 14345 Bagley, West Olive, MI 49460.
Also, when applying for a dog license for your pet, you
can add your tax deductible HERO Fund contribution to your
dog license fee.
Who Qualifies
Anyone whose income is at or below poverty
level can apply for a spay/neuter voucher for their cat or
dog. This voucher may be used at any participating veterinary
clinic or at Harbor Humane Society. The voucher is for the
full cost of the procedure.
