An animal can bring so much love and happiness to your life.
Just ask the people profiled in these adoption stories. They
took one look at those big brown eyes, floppy ears or stubby
tails and entered the special world of pet ownership – a
world that’s brought them many rewards and discoveries.
Read about their experiences. See the joy they’ve found in bringing a new friend into their homes from Harbor Humane Society.
If you have adopted from us and would like to share your adoption story on our website, please email office@harborhumane.org and include a photo of your new pet as well. Sharing your positive adoption stories will help others choose adoption first for their new pet. Thank you!

My family adopted Zeke (formerly known as Toby) from the Harbor Humane Society about six years ago, and we have never regretted it since. Zeke quickly seized our affection, delighting us with his playfulness and his very singular personality. He likes to lay on the driveway in the sun during the hottest days in August; he's learned all our code words for "squirrel"; he doesn't like being patted on the head, but when anyone enters the house he goes ga-ga with happiness; and he's taken decided possession of every bed in the house. I have found that I can talk about my dog for hours, so we best leave it at that! As I said, I could go on and on and on about my dog, but you'll just have to take my word for it: having a pet from the humane society in your home is a two-fold blessing because you know you've blessed an animal with a happy home, and in return they bless that home by being there. Whenever I visit HHC, I leave sad because I wish I could adopt all those poor creatures so desperate for affection. But then I think about Zeke, and I'm so grateful we were able to adopt him at least.
Sincerely,
Becky VandenBerg
Musetta
(formerly known as Josephine) A blessed event has occurred in our family, we just adopted a wonderful cat from The Harbor Humane Society. Her past was clouded with mistreatment, but she still has a loving, sweet disposition. Formally known as Josephine, by the Humane Society, she is now named Musetta. She replaced our 20 year old cat, Spartina. Musetta had big paws to fill, but she has already captured our hearts.
Thank you,
Chuck and Shirley
Toby
(formerly known as Orcus) We adopted Toby as a six month old kitten. We originally had planned on a younger kitten but a staff member introduced us to Toby. At first he looked like an ordinary white cat with a striped tail and then we saw his blue eyes - turns out he is a flame point Siamese and the best cat we have ever had! I know we saved his life and in return we have been rewarded as well! We had recently had to euthanize our twelve year old cat - due to cancer. Once Toby moved in we moved on and this is a story that has a happy ending. . .

Paypay
Hello, I adopted "Payton" from you in the spring and just wanted to give you an update. She now goes by "Paypay" and is a happy and loving member of our family. She is healthy and happy and leads a great life. She passed 2 dog obedience courses with flying colors, one basic and one advanced. We had a great summer where we learned that paypay loves to camp, swim and go canoeing. She even swam in lake superior! This xmas, we plan on doing our first snowshoe trip with paypay. She loves adventure! (I attached some pics of her as a puppy and her on adventures.) We really love her and want you to know we will NEVER part with her. Thank you for all of your hard work at the humane society!
