Our goals
The goal of Harbor Humane Society is to provide for the needs of each animal in our care. The adoption fee allows us to meet the needs of ALL the animals that for no fault of their own, find themselves homeless, abandoned or neglected.
Value of adopting from HHS vs. a “free” or Backyard breeder pet: The average cost for a spay/neuter, medical exam, vaccinations, hw test, microchip, county license at a local veterinarian is between $220-$520 depending on clinic, size and age of dog. $200-$300 depending on clinic, size and age of cat.
Variable Adoption Fee Policies & Frequently Asked Questions
Why is one animal adoption fee higher than another?
“Supply and Demand” at HHS, we see the value in every animal that comes to stay with us, whether they are big, small, fuzzy, bald, purebred, Heinz 57, young or old…Unfortunately, not all of society views all animals equal and valuable, we don’t make these rules, but in order to insure that everyone here gets a chance, we are willing to do variable adoption fees to meet Society’s Supply and Demand.
Why don’t you keep all prices low so animals get adopted faster?
The fees involved in the adoption process help to cover the expense of housing, feeding, and seeing to the basic needs of ALL the animals at HHS, not just the animal you are considering adopting. We are a non profit organization that operates on the generosity of donors, funds received from services and special events.
Why do you have to euthanize animals?
Unfortunately, HHS cannot possibly keep up with the countless numbers of animals that are left abandoned either on our doorstep or at large, we cannot keep up with the numbers of stray kittens brought in daily before their eyes are even open. We need the help of this community to eliminate overpopulation.
PLEASE SPAY or NEUTER your pets, please don’t support the industry of Back Yard or hobby breeders and please keep proper identification on all your pets. |
