As the only humane society for all of Ottawa County, Harbor
Humane Society provides a number of services. We advocate
for animals and inform the community through:
Animal Protection and Care
- Shelter unwanted, abused, lost or stray animals
- Provide lost and found services to reunite people with
their pets
- Vaccinations, de-worming, medication
- High-quality food and clean water
- Exercise, social interaction, bedding and toys
- Protect the public by quarantining and euthanizing sick
or dangerous animals
- Ensure a loving, humane, respectful and peaceful end
of life to unadopted animals
Adoption Assistance
- Seek placement of animals into humane environments
- Extensive adoption counseling services
- Provide a wish list for people looking for a specific
breed
- Supply adopters with an informational packet and resources
- Offer tagging and micro-chipping for adopted animals
Community Education and Services
- Offer several programs that put kids and adults in touch
with animals, including HHS Family Program, HHS
Humane Education Department and Kritter Kamp
- Provide extensive educational handouts on pet topics
to the public
- Implement programs promoting humane values and responsible
pet ownership
- Promote education through local libraries, bookstores
and press releases
- Promote spay/neuter and adoption education via a multimedia
approach
