Status:                                    Part-time, Non-exempt

Major Functions
The primary responsibility is to provide the animals with fresh water and food while maintaining a clean and healthy environment at HHS.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Clean and disinfect kennel and other areas of the shelter
  • Feed and water animals
  • Interact with the animals providing positive human contact
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment at Harbor Humane Society
  • Observe animals for behavioral or health related problems and report them to a supervisor
  • Assist Animal Control Officers and public with incoming animals
  • Administer vaccinations and medications to animals
  • Perform heartworm, FELV, or FELV/FIV on adopted animals
  • Microchip animals
  • Maintain the operation of washing machines, dryers, and dish washers
  • Provide the public with accurate information or assist them to proper person for the information
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as instructed by supervisor
  • Assist with euthanasia when requested by kennel supervisor
  • Assist with training of new volunteers in kennels
  • Check in, sort, and store donations in the appropriate areas
  • Help public unload donations from their vehicles
  • Fix dog beds as needed
  • General maintenance duties-change light bulbs, fix faucets, dog kennels, etc.
  • Change filters on water filters for washing machines and change filters on the furnace
  • Clean out lint from large dryer and clean out drain behind washers
  • Wash and store carriers and kennels
  • Order cleaning supplies for shelter when needed
  • Empty poop buckets in outside kennel
  • Dependability and strong work ethic
  • Work in areas with high level of noise

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Experience with handling animals
  • Commitment to the Humane Society’s mission and values.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare issues a plus.
  • Leadership skills

Working Conditions:
Work schedule may be flexible, and will require some evenings, weekends and holidays.  This position is classified “non-exempt”.  The physical demands of the position include sitting, standing, and walking; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of 50 lbs.; and stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, and seeing.
